How to Prepare for a Newborn Photo Session
1. The most important thing is bring your baby sleepy and hungry so they can feed at the studio. Sleepy babies photograph much better than babies that are awake. We will get them undressed before they feed and when they fall asleep and they have a full belly I will get started.Newborn sessions are best at 7-14 days old and you’ll want to book your session as early as possible to secure your spot. I book your session based on your due date but I guarantee you a session as close to the 7 to 14-day-old time frame as possible
2. Sessions typically last 2-3 hours and I’m always sure to have the time it takes to get it right. With that said always bring extra food for the baby. With me waking them up to change positions alot they eat more than usual. You never need to worry about bringing something for the baby to wear to my studio! I work with fabrics, wraps, baskets and I knit all my own baby clothes so there is ALOT to pick from in my studio. I also capture close up detailed photos and family portraits that celebrate your new family.
3. Its always a good idea to bring a change of clothes for yourself and anyone else that may be in the photo. Almost every session I have someone gets peed on and they have to change clothes. 🙂 I love to capture the emotion of the first days of you with your new baby. There is nothing more beautiful than a mom or dad holding a newborn baby! I have plenty of wraps for moms to get those skin on skin photos but I do ask for parents to bring long sleeve neutral shirts with no buttons for any siblings that are going to be in the photos.
4. I do a pre-session consultation either over the phone or in the studio before the appointment so we can make sure I know what you are looking for. You can tell me your vision and I will add in my creativity to make it happen. Then after your photo session is over we will setup another appointment about 2 weeks later when you can come back and see all of your photos in a slide show and sort through your images and decide what type of art you want to take home. I give you retouched ready to hang photos. Alot of work after the session goes into making every photo perfect. I specialize in wall series canvases and heirloom albums which is what I offer in my Create a Collection Packages.
