Newborn Prep Guide
Parents play a important role to a successful experience in the newborn session. So lets get some tips written down to make things easier on the new parents and the baby….
Lets get started!
First thing is I highly recommend booking your newborn session as early as three months prior to your approximate delivery date. That gives me enough time fully customize a newborn session just for you!
Baby’s Birthday
So Exciting!!! Once you and baby have been released from the hospital please contact me right away to schedule a definite date and time for your babies newborn session. Sessions are typically scheduled 2 to 4 days, after you go home. I put a tentative date in my calendar when we book but I am always flexible with changing it depending on when the baby decides to make an entrance.
Younger babies tend to do very well in the studio, oppose to a baby that is 10-14 days old. They tend not to wake up frequently and as easily. 48 hours before your session is the most crucial to keeping things rolling smoothly at the shoot.
Still need to come in after the 10-14 day mark? No worries, my training and experience as a mom myself has taught me ways to soothe any baby and I will get you beautiful photos either way.
All About the Session
Newborn sessions take place in my home studio in Salisbury, MD. I have everything you need in my studio so no need to bring anything but food for the baby and a change of clothes for you in case baby has an accident. By the way everything that is used is washed after each newborn session if you were concerned about the props being sanitary.
If you have a good drive before you reach me you can feed the baby at the studio but I do recommend keeping the baby up for at least two hours before you come. A warm bath is always helpful. If they are in something that is easy to take off without going over their head that is always best. Babies are not fond of getting undressed!
If baby is good and asleep when you arrive I can get right to work but if there was a long drive and they wake up when you get here we may have to feed the baby first. We will play it by ear. We will do whatever makes baby most comfortable. They kinda run the session. 🙂
Now if there is another sibling that will be in a few of the photos we will shoot that first so someone can take them home and they won’t be bored for 3 hours waiting for us to finish up. We can discuss all of that at your preconsult appointment .
My goal is for everyone to be as comfortable as possible and to get you the best photos I can in the quickest time I can so everyone can get back to a normal day and you can have a wonderful experience to go with your beautiful newborn and family photos.
