I get asked quite often when should I setup my newborn session? Well it depends on a few things. If your baby was born after 37 weeks they are considered full term which means I can setup your session for somewhere between 10-14 days. Up to 6 weeks is still considered a newborn for me and then I switch over to a baby session which is setup differently due to the ability of the baby now not being able to do the “Newborn” poses that I do for the younger babies. Now sometimes even very new babies still are awake and not sleepy. It’s not a big deal they just get wrapped up for thier session instead of putting them in clothes and doing a lot of poses on the beanbag. I adjust my workflow according to what the baby wants to do. Every session is different and that is what makes it fun! I do 90% of my sessions in the morning at 9:00. Babies just seem to do better in the mornings. That way you can be done before lunch and go home and rest.
This is Camille and she was 8/16 so I did her session when he was 12 days old
Now if the baby is born premature it changes things a little. If a baby was born prematurely, you may have heard or read different terms about your baby’s “age”, especially when referring to development. You may have heard the words “corrected or adjusted age”. It is calculated by starting with the chronological age (which is thier birthday) and subtracting the number of weeks of prematurity from that age. It is important to correct for a baby’s prematurity to give an accurate assessment of thier developmental abilities. That lets me know what the session is going to be like a head of time. A baby that is born premature can be photographed as a “newborn” up to 2-3 months depending on how premature they were.
This is Connor and he was born 7 weeks early so I did his session when he was 6 weeks old
You session can always be adjusted if baby comes early or late. I am very flexible working everyone in so they can have the best opportunity for a wonderful smooth newborn session. That being said it doesn’t always work out the way that we expect so sometimes things need to be changed up a little bit but everyone always gets beautiful photos to remember this special time in your families life.
